Pondering the love of Litespeeds....

I don't see the fascination, frankly. Even the pros have abandoned the brand. Gerolsteiner rides S-Works and the Disco team rides Treks. You also see Colnagos, Pinarellos, Bianchis, Giants and many other bikes in the peloton, but no Litespeeds. Maybe Dirt and Redlight are the last to know. Maybe they get so excited on the blog to mask their underlying emotional disapointment in their rides. Maybe I'm just FAT and need something to talk smack about.....

Step away from Haagan Das, put that spoon down. Them's fight'n words biotch!

Maybe it’s the fact that any off the rack shopper can slide onto the widened seat of a trek. Maybe it’s the construction flaws in the mass produced swill known as Trek. Maybe it’s the overdone corporate mega-opoly of the Trek/Gary Fisher/Lemond/and on and on. Word has it that Wal-Mart is selling the Trek line.

Litespeeds are created, no birthed, by artisans of Merlin fame. No one, Moots excepted, can manage to forge the clean and flawless welds in Ti as the boys from Tennessee. If I'm not mistaken, and I'm not, LA has been known to ride Litespeed with a Trek paint job.

We can forgive the corporate greed that has caused Litespeed to enter the aluminum market. They were only thinking of bringing their exceptional quality to the masses; it was altruistic. Fact is, a purchase of Litespeeds requires the entire annual wage of most Americans. You must pay for the quality. Treks on the other hand....well, I think I have enough change in my desk drawer to pick up their latest "product".

Getting faster.....

While I agree with Dirt and his analysis of quality over quantity, I personally like to let the riding speak for me. So far, I've only been beaten uphill by a Specialized, a Litespeed and whatever that yellow thing is that Q rides. Somehow, Trek is dubiously absent from that list...

Oh, and today my Litespeed carried me far ahead of Fabio's S-works. But that's because he didn't drink enough martinis last night.

Ate some Haagen Daz last night while watching Paris-Nice.

I'll be in shape for summer and for the RFTR. Look for me on the hills then.

Say all you want about mass market bikes, Litespeed magic, etc. At the end of the day, .....

Why bother. You suck!

Where do I begin... First I was going to mention that you can't win if you don't enter, or is it you can't lose if you don't try. Well, all those quips fell by the wayside when it was brought to our attention that litspeds are made by 'artisans in TENNESSEE'! What in the name of cycling are you doing puttin your ass on something that comes from such a forward thinking place as TENNESSEE? The last time someone used artisan and TENNESSEE in the same thought, it was FDR and prohibition was still in play.

Now I understand wanting to support 3rd world countries (mass produced bikes), but 3rd world states? Come on, the last good thing to come out of TENNESSEE was Alberto Gore, and only because he invented that internet thing.

God bless you and your hand brewed, er, hand crafted donkey from TENNESSEE. Now Donkey and Tennessee in the same thought that sends us another direction, and those are surely to be deemed fightin words...

That's all for now.

Great laughing material. We need to go to "open mic" night at the Comedy Club, and just invite cyclists.

I for one believe that as long as it is ahead of me, I don't care what brand it is, I'm looking to catch it. If it's behind me, the bike is awesome, the rider sucks.
