What's Going On At The Dauphine?

We all know that what happens at the Dauphine is not a direct indicator of performance at the Tour. You only have to recall Mayo crushing Armstrong up the Ventoux a few years ago and then dropping out of the Tour like a wuss to prove this corollary. Anyone remember how Inigo Landaluze did at the Tour last year?

BUT, I'm puzzled by some of the performances thus far. Vino and Landis are rolling in just ahead of the grupetto on the climbs? Thor Hushovd finishes only 1:26 down on today's climbing stage? However, Leipheimer, Hincapie, Valverde, Moreau, Menchov and Mancebo are all displaying expected form, but not killing themselves. No one seemed to really want to win yesterday's stage up the Ventoux. It was odd.

It appears that lots of individual mind games are being played, while a few teams are still trying to score victories and get publicity.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the final two stages. Also, the Tour de Suisse kicks off tomorrow as well. Anyone interested can come see stage 6 of the Dauphine and Stage 1 of the Tour de Suisse at mi casa tomorrow. Both kick off between 7:30 and 8:00 on cycling.tv. Mommy needs me home by 8:30 from my ride so she can go to an appointment, so I'll be catching the end of both stages on the computer.
